c. LATE 1920’s HAND MADE TESUQUE PUEBLO “WINKING” RAIN GOD FIGURINE—RARE FORMCONDITION – EXCELLENT, no restoration or repair, minor paint smearing, BARELY VISIBLE small chip on bowl rim, minor slip rubbing on head.
Hands, Feet and Bowl are in GREAT SHAPE….

RARE FORM--c. Late 1920’s Tesuque Rain God figurine. With one eye open (has hole) and one eye closed
(WINKING)
, open mouth and nose nostrils.
Including, colored paint decorations outlined in black on cheeks, neck, chest, bowl and TOP of HEAD.
Bottom is unsigned, designating the early form of the making of rain god.
There has been much speculation regarding the origin of the Tesuque Rain God figurines.
Figurative pottery from New Mexico pueblo potters has a long tradition, at least as far as back as 1880 or a little older.
The first ones, prior to 1905 were made of micaceous clay.
