    Description

This is a rare antique decorated pottery plate by the Maricopa tribe of Arizona, circa 1920 to 1940s, or so. Plate is 7 1/2" in diameter and 1 3/8" high to the top of the rolled in rim. The pot is stone polished red clay with an intense black painted thunderbird design that is lightly outlined in a thin white paint highlight. The outside of the plate has a typical Maricopa hooked geometric repeating figure. The plate is pierced with 2 small holes at the top for hanging. The plate is in excellent original condition with no cracks, no discoloration, and no repairs, and there is just a tiny flea bite on the rim. Somewhere along the line, someone put what looks like a thin coat of shellac over this piece thinking it needed protection, but that could be easily removed, if desired. This is the best decorated piece of Maricopa pottery that I have owned. It was just found in New Mexico. Shipping is .00 Priority mail. There is a 30 day money back inspection period, and email for more information. Thank you.

I have had a suggestion that this is actually a Hopi piece of pottery, and I think that may be correct. Sorry for the mis-information if this is actually Hopi.
